Free 808 Pack: 12 Tuned 808 One-Shots (With the Measurements)

Most free 808s ask you to trust the filename. These twelve publish their numbers instead: every note measured against its label, every length and peak on the table. Free — because a claim you can check is worth more than a claim you can't.

The Free 808 Pack is twelve long 808 one-shots pulled from our two hip hop packs: six from BOSS PACK (our Miami hip hop pack) covering C1 to Bb1, and six from BLOCK PARTY (our hip hop Foundations pack) at A1, C2, D2, E1, F2 and G2. Root notes from C1 up to G2 — a working low-end scale, not twelve variations of the same file — and at A1 and E1 you get both packs' flavors side by side. The measurements

An 808 opens with a pitch drop — that drop is the punch, and it's design, not drift. What matters is where the tone settles: if the settled fundamental isn't the note on the label, every pattern you write with it is quietly out of tune with your track. So we measure the settled sustain of every file against its label, in cents (100 cents = one semitone), and we gate the packs at ±10 cents. Here is the shipped set, re-measured for this article:

How to use them

• Play them at the root. Drop a file into your sampler on its labeled note and the pattern you write is the pattern you hear — no compensating, no tuning by ear against the track.
• Let the head do the punching. The BOSS hits carry the classic 808 pitch-drop attack. If your kick is getting lost, layer the kick's click over the 808's body instead of reaching for a second kick sample.
• Use the C1 XL for long sustains. At 3.0 seconds it's the one built for slow trap patterns where the 808 is the bassline.
• Write melodies up top. The D2 and G2 from BLOCK PARTY live in the register where 808 lines turn melodic — good for hooks and bridges while the low six hold the floor.
• Glide them. These are clean, settled tones — sampler glide/portamento between notes behaves exactly the way it should.
